One day Eliezer's spiritual advisor Moche and the non-Hungarian Jews are removed from the town by the Hungarian police, and the towns people soon forget about them missing. A few months later Moche escapes from a German concentration camp and returns to the town inorder to warn the people about the oncomming terror. The people in the town dismiss his warnings and continnue with their everyday lives.
Soon German troops begin to inhabit the town and they are polite to the people. During the passover celebration the full force of the German troops is used, and they force the jews to remain in their homes, give up teir valubles, and they all must wear yellow stars. The people are all then forced out of their homes and moved into two seperate ghettos, one small ghetto, and one larger ghetto. everybody lives in te ghetto for the holiday and they are then packed into the synagogue for a whole day. The next day the people are packed into cattle cars with one person in charge per car. That person is givin the order to shoot if anything occurs on the train.
